    @anundverkaufen you are right, thank-you very much! I have found two others with the same design (one has abalone shell on the shield part), both have been polished to a nice shine.

    The little bits of flotsam and jetsam that I bring home after browsing the one or two estate sales I go to in a year are laughably modest compared to the awe-inspiring things I see posted here regularly, but I have a question about this item.

    I bought this because it appeared to be old, but I had no idea what the Immortal 600 was/is (I do now). What confused me is the newer look of the pin on the back and the haphazard way the ribbon is skewered on it. The back is engraved: "Capt. T.H. Bord; 58th V Regt" (that is apparently Thomas H. Board of Bedford VA). The medal maker, Schwaab something of Milwaukee is above the engraving.

    All of that appears to be authentic, and I read that these were issued to the survivors around 1900, so is the pin original? Is it likely the ribbon was originally skewered like that?

    Finally, I am not sure what I am going to do with this, but I am considering donating it to a suitable institution, but where? Thank you.

    That would be a veterans of the Civil War thing

    Probably made around 1900

    My great grandpa worked for Schwaab S&S. I think they disappeared or changed name in the '20s.

    If you are looking for a suitable venue for donation, check out the Pritzker Museum in Chicago - they have a comprehensive Civil War section and may be "in the market" for this sort of thing............since they are a "learning" institution I have made a number of donations figuring that the materials will not just sit in a storeroom but be used for educational purposes.

    Morgen94, I respect the suggestion of Mansons2005 as to the Pritzker Museum in Chicago, but . . .

    I would like to suggest the possibility that perhaps a "confederate" museum might be a fitting place for a Confederate soldier's commemorative pin/medal. I don't mean to appear overly sentimental, but having the pin/medal in (perhaps) closer proximity to present-day descendants of Capt. Bord of the 58th V(irginia) Regiment might be a more fitting "resting place" for it.

    My daughter gave this to me yesterday. Well, I looked it up and almost fainted. Too lazy to take a pic but this is the oil lamp.Mine has never been used.:)

    All the finds are fabulous.:kiss:
    Found some western items in a barn over the weekend.2 hats and an old pair of leather fringed chaps. An antique Levi & Salaman sterling & glass (cut glass, I think it's called?) trinket box or jar. Found a few other things, but not photographed yet.
