    Hello all
I obtained the above painting from a family member, who was not interested in this beautiful portrait.
The painting was assessed in Maastricht in February 2019 by an art historian, who is affiliated with a well-known Dutch Art program.
It would be a forgery of one of Rembrandt's famous portrait paintings, according to the art historian.

Initially, one could be misled by the signature of this portrait.
    However,...
I suspect that it is not the signature of the famous artist/sculptor August Rodin,
but that the name referred to the person who was painted.

After some research on the internet, I still came across the following.

    The signature likeness is stunning.

This painting was sold by Catawiki in 2017 for € 550.

Today I found another portret by the same painter.

Now there would be one A. Rodin, born 2-1-1920 in Velzen,
who studied at the Free academy 't Gooi in Bussum with, among others, Prof. dr. van der Wal.

During a group exhibition of this Free Academy which took place in Hilversum from 1953 to 1955, this portrait painting of this A. Rodin won 1st prize in 1954.

Is there another A. Rodin ???

Is Catawiki the only place that bio appears? I’m not finding much anywhere else.

I think you might have the right painter although the quality of the other examples does seem slightly better; possibly just the photograph though, does seem logical it would be his work though, canvas age looks right.

[edit]On further examination of the first pic, (the close-up) I have to say the quality just doesn't seem to be there ..could it be that your painting is a copy of the A Rodin you show in the other photos? Just an idea.

I haven't thought about that yet Blooey
The painting belonged to an uncle of my husband, who in turn gave it as a wedding gift to a (late) brother of my husband.
Unfortunately I can't tell you more about it despite my search, that's why I posted it here.

This is the real August Rodin himself, and I was wondering if the painted portraits should represent the person A. Rodin?
