Oh good grief: "Hold on to your chairs!!!"

For want of a "space" all credibility is/was lost (because credibility in this case was probably in short supply to begin with).

 

Guess what I found out by looking around this morning -- there was a movie ("The Voice of Bugle Ann") made in 1936 based on the book.

Talk about an all-star cast with some of my all-time favorite actors/actresses from "old" movies: Lionel Barrymore, Maureen O'Sullivan, and Spring Byington.

 

Found in an estate sale in town - a bakers dozen of crazy quilt squares, all hand sewn. The rest of the box had some well-eaten wool quilt squares by the same hand and some other ones from the 20s30s. Price on the whole box? Ten bucks.
I think the embroidery was done from a transfer of some kind, but it's all hand work.

 

My dubious eyes read that as Budgie Ann and Iwas wondering who'd write a book about a parakeet like house pet.

Nahhh - budgies are dumb, messy and noisy. Parrots are smart, ornery and ...messy. Just watch, said parrot will soon learn how to drive the dog crazy. If its humans don't accidentally teach it something, the parrot will figure it out for itself.

Is the transfer ink showing? Because that is how I was taught to do crazy quilts pieces - no transfer needed.

 

None, but the center designs look like something ironed on and emboidered over. There's a butterfly, bird, horseshoe, etc. They look like the transfers I used to see advertised in catalogs my grandmother had back in the 70s.

 

Ohhhh. THAT embroidery! Never mind.

 

McCarty of Merigold, Mississippi, a good ceramic signature to look for, there's a load of it out there and not many pickers recognize it, most does really well. This one's an early one, a good size at 9" x 4" and a very unusual glaze I haven't seen by them.

 

Hadn't heard of them, but just went in to Ebay completed, wow! They do sell very well. Will keep an eye out. Thanks, Anund.

Me too. My late father was a rail addict. To this day I still have to slap my hands away from railroadiana ... and it doesn't generally work. I've even purchased railroad-themed quilt fabric. (sigh)

Bought these in a charity shop on Sunday, as I was bored and it was raining and the nice lady pointed them out to me. Two dollars, equivalent. Didn't even realise they were signed.

 

Those are pretty OBB. Are they glass?

 

Carved Lucite, looking at their website. And they sell for $100 new!

Alexis Bittar does a LOT of carved lucite, and it sells well in the US (they have a NYC/Madison Ave. boutique), not sure about the UK
