Is this a Vintage Glass whiskey decanter or the base for an vintage Glass oil lamp

    This item is 7 1/2" tall

    I vote decanter - and a particularly ungainly one at that!

    Agreed. An oil lamp would have a sort of sliced off top showing where the fitment is missing.

    Also: the ground interior of the neck is for a stopper. I don't know if you would find that on old decanters.

    From the shape and the cuttings, I would put the decanter around the 1930s-40s.

    Ungainly? Well it's flawless well kept no defects looking for someone who thinks ungainly is attractive I guess, as beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

    I wasn't commenting on its attractiveness, I meant ungainly in the sense that it would be cumbersome to pour from - particular after two or three servings!

    Definitely what I would call a "two hander" when full, but it would look attractive on a sideboard with other decanters.

    Round is an odds shape for a decanter.

    You do get ground necks on older decanters. There's a name for these round ones, I've forgotten it though.
