Hi, I am new to this type of posting. Hopefully I am doing it correctly. The Sled in the picture I was thinking might be the 1935 King of the Hill Sled by Standard Novelty ? However I have not been able to find one sled that looks like this one and cant find a sled picture of the original Standard Novelty king of the hill from 1935. At first I thought the art was repainted possibly and maybe it wasnt original one, however when you run your fingers along the design, you can feel the indents in the wood where the lettering and art is. I am fairly confident it was original mfg art and someone lacquered over it to save the art possibly? I cant find any maker marks on the sled top and bottom. Any thoughts on the year and maker would be greatly appreciated. I tried to post more pics but having trouble posting them on here. Thanks!! Robert

I can't find a pic of it either even though there are a multitude of the Standard Novelty Works' Lightning Guider pics out there. I did find mention of the Old Sled Works that occupies the old Standard Novelty Works factory building. It was started by the son of Standard Novelty Works' owner after the sled factory shut down in 1990 something. It is a market/mall thing for antiques, crafts, etc. A part of the building is a dedicated sled museum. It presumably has a "rare" King of the Hill sled:

"And then there are the sleds. Once coveted by America’s children, the wares made in Duncannon are exhibited in the small museum, arranged chronologically, including a rare 1935 'King of the Hill.'”

Possibly contacting them with pics of your sled, they might be able to help you. I can't seem to find an actual email address for them. Here is the their street address:
    Old Sled Works
    722 North Market St.
    Dunncannon, PA 17020

They seems to have a webpage and are on facebook:

Here is an Antique Week article about the place. Scroll about 1/2 way down the page to the section "The Old Sled Works." The above quote is the 5th paragraph under this section.

Hi, Just wanted to come back and give you an update on the sled. I didnt get any response from the Sled Works place. I went ahead and purchased an antique sled book that did have a picture of the 1935 King of the Hill Standard Novelties Sled. The sled I have is slightly different. (Although the graphics are worn off fairly heavily in book pic, hard to see) On our sled the graphics is somewhat similar and the build of sled just slightly different. But all in all very close. So I was thinking it might just be a different year. I had to laugh, because it brought me back to where I am now. STUMPED! You can feel the ridges (like a stamping process) in the letters and art on our sled, which makes me think it has to be a Standard Novelties sled and not a different mfg that someone hand painted. If that makes sense. Anyways, the plan is to put it online for auction and see what happens. Ill let you know how it goes. Thanks again for all your help! Rob

Thank you for the update. Sorry you didn't get anything concrete on the sled. Between you, me and the fence post, I think it is the real deal. Good luck on the auction.
