When i saw this ink stand/tray and the Victoria Ironstone mark I knew it was fake but the lady insisted it was a rare antique and was asking 25.00 for it. If it was a real antique it would have been ten times that. Long story short, I got it for 7.00.
Last one i saw sold on the bay for 50.00

Now that you've seen it, you'll spot that off color white across the room

I've come to think that many people only care about the decorative value and not about the age or history. I guess then you don't have to wring your hands when the cat knocks it off the table

Yes Terry, and that fake mark makes it even more unmistakable.
You know that English ironstone has more fake marks than real ones.
I agree say_it_slowly and it is it's decorative value that will make me a profit on this, not much but enough.

    Hi Mikey,
For 7 bucks I would have bought it also, it is a great teaching tool. I have had so many people come to me with these fake pieces. One guy paid $300 for a soup tureen. When I showed him a catalog that it was only 50 bucks new the year before,
he almost stroked out. I gave him the catalog to try and get his money back. I never heard from him again.
