if anyone can help with this painting it is appreciated. The name Fane T. Is on the back. On very thick paper seems hand made almost like leather. Dark black ink and brown may be dry blood not positive though. Thank you for any time 354461E0-8F0B-4F5E-9CC9-E0D5A217E7AE.jpeg 6927BB89-0824-4DEF-9EE8-4B1B7D39EB30.jpeg 9DE5D211-9F21-4919-BE64-10C8F3CA9ADC.jpeg 34BAF11B-DD5E-4E72-B4F6-4F3033F3B9DD.jpeg 56CB7396-D72C-4983-BFBF-D324AC837D7B.jpeg

Yes, tapa. @Taupou will probably be able to say where it is from.

It is a tapa cloth, and it's from Fiji.

No blood involved! The cloth itself it made by beating the inner bark of the paper mulberry tree/shrub, and gluing them together to make a type of felted fabric. In most places, the black dye is made from burned nuts of the candlenut tree, the brown may be made from the candlenut tree bark. But all use natural local materials to produce the tapa cloth.

Fiji tapa is made with stencils, other island nations use carved pattern boards for the designs, or paint them freehand.
