    Hi folks
Pretty new to this but I found a ring that has a woman cameo on it with the letters v&a on it could this possibly be worth something? Just trying to find the history behind it

I found an old ebay thread that says V&A may stand for Victoria & Albert Museum.

Can you get a picture of the mark?

ETA: Some museums sell jewelry. One that comes to mind is MMA, Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Never mind on the mark; it seems likely it is from Victoria and Albert Museum.

It is very very hard to see the ring in your pic. The pictured needed to be cropped to just the ring. I took the liberty of cropping it for a better view.

Not that jewellery if it is marked 10K, that carat is used in the US only. UK equivalent would have a proper hallmark if sold by the V&A

af is spot on. It's not British.

It looks like the cameo is a replacement and not the original "stone".

I had no luck finding a USA jewelry mark of "V&A" other than the mention of a company by the the name of V & A Jewelry, Mfg. of Los Angeles. I could not find their mark anywhere. According to the following mention of the company on an ebay jewelry board, it seems it went out of business in the 1990s. Do note the mention of the Victoria & Albert Museum. Like Af and Owmedby... (both very very knowledgeable people of Great Britain) said not of Great Britain because of lack of British hallmarks that are necessary on precious metals such as silver, gold and platinum.

Here is page on their trademark:

Without a pic of the mark, there is probably little chance of IDing the maker, and as only 10k probably no great value. The cameo doesn't look finely carved with very little detail work.

British usage is carat for gold and diamonds. Confusion is improbable.

To me: KARAT = purity of gold. / CARAT = size of a diamond.

Carat is a weight measurement for gemstones, 5 carats equals 1 gram.

In the UK and Europe, it is indeed carat for both, albeit with different meanings.

With my physics geek head on, I'd also point out that it's a measurement of mass, when using in the gem stone sense.
