Chinese Jade ? Pendant

That thing was sooo dirty. Still a lot to clean. Don’t know if old but the carving quality is not very good.

 

not jade, some other stone. Characters look etched with acid.

 

I see only carving but not etching marks.

Jade is resistant to most acids,hydrofluoric acid can etch the surface but it is not something a normal/intelligent person would use.

 

What are etching marks?
I made etched jewellery for about 6 or 7 years back in the 70's - not stone, but silver, brass and copper.
The carving of the characters have that look, maybe not, but look like it.

BTW HydroCHLORIC acid will etch some stones. Don't need to use HydroFLOURIC

 

It ain't Jade tho

 

It hasn't been tested,no one knows what mineral it is.

 

Well one thing it ain't is Jade, nothing like it.

Is yours maybe "camo-jade?"

Not sure how to compare my piece to the pictured above? Jade comes in almost every possible color. There is opaque, translucent and transparent jade. New jade, older jade, ancient jade..., they all differ.
Then, are we talking jadeite or nephrite?

This one is in a way resistant to steel blade but the surface condition is not very suitable to perform tests. It’s possible some kind of treatment was done to the stone, whatever its origin is... It was very dirty but I suspect the brown is a dye or so.

 

I think it could be bowenite. Bowenite is a type of serpentine, and it can look blotchy like this.
