I find it strange, also, that you can drop a small purchase on the floor and it disappears down a black hole. Somewhere is the land of dropped treasures which I hope to visit some day.

That’s also where the single socks that disappear in the dryer go

I don't think so. Somewhere there is a place called sockland, where they go to when they get a chance to escape the smelly feet they so despise.

I saw a headline in the National Inquirer-Enquirer once, at the supermarket...it claimed there was a ring in space around the earth, which contained all the luggage that had been lost by the airlines, and I suppose all the lost socks also. They had a photo and everything, so you know it is true. It is called the Luggage Belt.

A sock fell out of my sweater sleeve when I got it out of the wardrobe and donned it this morning.

It could also be a cat burglar; I've heard of household pets swiping socks.

I've heard the missing socks go off, grow cocoons and metamorphize into clothes hangars.

We had a cat that used to bring home washing off other people's lines.

One of my cats, when younger, would steal socks from the washing pile and walk round the house trailing them. He also managed an entire tinsel garland from the Christmas Tree one year, WITHOUT disturbing a single bauble.

My wife had a cat once that had become sexually fixated upon an old knitted scarf. He would drag it all around the house, and I will not describe what he did with it; but it was both gross and humorous.
Even odder, he had been neutered, so would presumably not have been interested in such activities even with an actual female cat.
