Vets around here recommend 7-9 weeks, yet some breeders let them go earlier like they did with us. This is not the first breeder I’ve encountered who lets them go around the 6th week of life.

The intent as it’s been explained to me is for support and socialization with the other pups and mother to avoid behavior problems along with better overall health... however the purported benefits are negated if the breeder separates them earlier anyway and weans them fast anyway.

I’m by no means an expert or a breeder. I’m happy to have him home with use and will slowly start socializing him with my sisters teacup yorkie and her shitzu.

Let me see if I can find him an attractive vintage collar.

No idea what that says, but I think it's fairly new. That looks like a dotcom on the back. Long registration number too - that's newish too. It's confusing because it seems to have alphabetic characters in there as well as the numbers.

@komokwa your little yellow jug is by April Cornell. Can't help with the pattern .... maybe some of those letters and numbers printed in the circle around April Cornell is the name of the pattern.

BMRT BEAUTIFUL blue boy, but less than 6 weeks is to soon to be taken from the momma, he is still far too immature, physically and psychologically. Puppies taken too soon usually develop life long issues,
    • excessive mouthiness
    • Lack of bite inhibition
    • Hard biting at extraordinarily young ages
    • Lack of tolerance to sensory stimulation: touch, noise, visual confusion
    • Lack of ability to generalize
    • Slowness of learning
    • Difficulty in sequencing concepts and learning
    • Lack of bounce back
    • Easily confused
    • Highly vocal when upset
    • High startle response (startles easily and extremely at low stimuli) These are the core factors that have been seen over and over again
Please Please go to this link it will help you understand better the issues you need to address NOW. it is a starting place. you can google this syndrome. A mastiff is a very large breed and one that you don't want getting aggressive, that could be a disaster for your blue boy. https://pethelpful.com/dogs/Risks-of-Removing-Puppies-too-Early-from-Mother-and-Litter-Mates

I agree, the breeder shouldn’t be doing this.

Everything we had already planned for. As previously mentioned, this isn’t the first time we’ve had a very young pup however I appreciate the article and the suggestions! In this pups circumstances, he already wasn’t with the parents.

Obedience school is always a must but in the end dogs are powerful animals. This reminded me of a traumatic event from my teenage days.

I had a great german shepherd years ago who unfortunately had to be put down. He was around 3 months when we got him...beautiful dog. Obedience school, the works. One unfortunate afternoon about 3 years into his life he took it upon himself to attack the coops. To this day I have no idea what set him off. I knew the breed was powerful but it was the first time I’ve ever seen it first hand. In under 10 minutes he had yanked the chicken wire and the entire flock of chickens save for 3 had been destroyed. When he was done he went for the rabbits in their enclosure and I went to stop him. The scuffle ended when my father finally reached us. I was lucky it didn’t go worse. Learned an important lesson that day. It really is a relationship between human and dog. Both need a degree of respect and willingness to work together.

Please understand that I'm not wanting to be negative regarding your lovely new boy - he is a stunner, and will no doubt be wonderful addition to your family. But am concerned about a breeder that sells their pups at six weeks, here in Florida it's against the law to sell them before eight weeks, and many breeders hold them to ten weeks. Did you see both parents, or at least the mother and pics and papers of the father? Was there a Veterinarian's report, with shot and worming records, or any health/genetic testing for defects (hip dysplasia would be real concern with a large breed)?

Hopefully you had all that covered - having dealt with a rescued pup from a backyard breeder, who had multiple health and personality issues, am just coming from a place of concern...

Yes, papers from both. Yes, bill of health from the vet. Yes, saw the parents and the grandfather. Yes, he is registered himself. We plan on taking him to our own trusted vet to have a good go-over. This breed tends to suffer from an enlarged heart and if he already has birth defects we want to know as soon as possible on what we need to provide a better life for him.

The little doxie I had before that passed away was from a backyard breeder only we rescued her instead of purchased. She was missing an eye and had all kinds of health issues due to neglect at only 3 years of age. It cost me thousands to get her organs and body to an acceptable condition. I’m pleased to say she lived a nice life before passing on at 12. I’ve had my own run in with puppy mills unfortunately.

My last few purchases before the hammer fell. Ill Will is still open, but they had nothing worth buying today. The lady and dog isn't anything in particular, but my sister will get it. The two stained glass bits are Venetian millefiori with 800 silver surrounds. The Liztech bug vanished literally seconds after I took the photo. It fell out of my hand, bounced once on the carpet and ... nowhere to be seen. I have house full of other stuff to list, and it'll turn up some day but...arggg.

Took me half an hour to find a rhinestone pin that was in a clear box staring me right in the nose every time I went to get another box to search. (rolleyes) In this case it really did vanish into thin air. I heard it hit something fabric, either the chair or the rug, and ...gone. Thankfully I only spent about $2 on it and it's still here somewhere.
