image.jpg Hi all, does anyone know who this artist is? On the back of the painting it has the date 1962 with a price above it (£2.200). The signature in bottom right says Taverna/Taverni (I assume it is Taverna considering what's in the painting)

Any help would be much appreciated!!

A picture of the whole thing, full on and in good light, and a picture of the label on the back may help.

Maximum weight of attachments is 1MB. Resize your overall picture to about 400 X 600 pixels - that should do it.

Think Tavern is the signature and not a description. Just looks like a decorative European scene. May not even be a real signature.... Italian factory piece?

I don`t think that is a Greek Taverna, it looks like a rural small holding.

A taverna is a small Greek restaurant, similar to a tavern, that serves Greek cuisine.

I've searched for artists called Taverna/Taverni and don't seem to be able to find anything, I've also looked through many artist in the 1962 period and can't seem to find any similar oil paintings.

I wouldn't be completely bothered by this photo but it's the fact it has a date and £2.200 price tag on the back which makes me believe it may be something to keep hold of

Not that I can say I know but I think if that is a decimal point then I think it's just equivalent to a few US dollars.

That reads £2,200 to me if it was the equivalent of a few dollars it would read £2.20

Scott , can you expand that pic of the price?
There's European writing, and American writing , and the rounded edge looks strange to me .
    Oh...& that's not a price tag....anyone could have written it !

I think it's 2200 Italian Lira rather than pounds.

Let's not forget Lira. Deriving from the same latin origin, the abbreviation £ is also used for Italian Lire. then the apparent decimal point would make sense. That is how an Italian would write it. It would tie in with the subject and probable value in the 60s.
    EDIT
Thats what you get forbeing long winded, sniped. :)
