Featured Old Bohemian Garnet Pins - Part of my Collection

Many thanks to the warm welcome I received as a new member. I mentioned my collection of garnet jewelry...here are a few of my favorite pins. (I think I have about 8 more pins/pendants and 3 bracelets.) And I do wear them!!

 

Oh, Karen, how lovely! I don't know why, but I especially like the one at the very top, in the middle.

I sometimes think that garnets are too sadly overlooked - I happen to think they've very pretty, even tho I don't wear any "stone" jewelry... (not even my engagement ring...)

(I've worn the same 3 gold bracelets & chain for at least 20 years... No rings, no pins - even tho I love them!)

 

Thanks SBSVC. To me garnets are just as pretty as rubies!!

Now that I'm working mostly from home, I have a feeling I'll be downsizing my jewelry a bit.

 

These are super-duper gorgeous! Like SBSVC, I don't wear much jewelry (in my case the same sterling bracelets for nigh on 40 years...I do add on occasionally...am up to 11 now). But I am partial to garnets (my birthstone). I like to pretend they are rubies:O)

I used to call them poor Mans Rubies,I had a couple of brooches but couldnt tell you where they ended up .Lovely collection.

Bohemian garnets, which sometimes were actually Gablonz glass. Set in silver or brass, usually, ocasionally vermeil. Mid to late 19th C. I love them and they have serious value, way over the stone or metal. The shapes all have meaning, too.

Love garnets. And me Mum, who had heirloom diamonds and pearls, collected garnets herself. Sadly, the collection went on the block years ago. Probably to pay back taxes on SOMETHING.............

 

I've never heard of Gablonz glass. Will definitely do some research on this!!

 

Oh they're so beautiful!!!!! My 2 faves would be the two middle ones!!!!!! But ALL are lovely!!
