all I found was a way to waste time. The TV company is sending a tech on Thursday to get the TV to talk to their new box ... that isn't talking to the TV. The old box did just fine until it died so odds are it's not the cord or the set. The new box may be defective.

Some nice bits and pieces from town today.
The fruit salad necklace is plastic but such fun and very cheap.Theres an apple, grapes, pears, strawberries and leaves. I'm going to restring it slightly further apart as it's very crowded. 70s/80s or what do you think?
Nice chunk of Amber, pretty red as yet unidentified gem pendant, a 925 CZ caged bracelet and the best finds from a charity shop, Ciro 9ct earrings, another pair of 9ct earrings and 11g of 9ct gold chain that was in the scrap jewellery box. Feel a little guilty about that. May get the link mended or just sell it as scrap.
The pendant bottom left I'd like to identify if any one can help. It looks like a sea themed idea that's lost maybe pearl or coral beads?. Full hallmark for Sheffield, lion passant and a B. Makers mark is AC - A definitely, C is worn.

From the last clearance I finished yesterday.

I emptied a display cabinet of mostly silver plate goblets and tankards, they went in the mixed metals scrap bin.

I found this unmarked pressed salver and thought it was plate and it nearly went in the junk too.

However I noticed it had been polished quite a bit as there was residue of polish in the creases and no plate had been rubbed off.
Rare Earth magnet test showed it was silver.

It polished up quite well and I used a Q-tip with ammonia to get in all the crevices.
570 grams is bang on £200

I have a scrap bucket for brass, copper and aluminium and silver plate if it’s on copper but when I took a load of s steel cutlery they didn’t want the newer stuff even when it was marked as s steel only the older clunky cutlery. I didn’t think there was any interest in silverplate? Have I missed a trick here Davey?

Today’s rummage finds for around $4 equivalent. The Russell Grant(UK tv astrologer)pendant was even in a labelled 9ct box! The 9ct boxing gloves have a nice 9ct chain. The cameo and leaf brooch are Rolled Gold. The tiny triplet opal is set in a base metal. Silver dragonfly, agate and green stone/glass? and base metal bracelets and costume Dachshunds.
I bought the empty Ratners box because of the Ratners story. They were a very successful U.K. high street jewellers until Gerald Ratner described one of their silver plated trays as ‘total crap’ at a conference and subsequently bankrupted the company as people stopped shopping there.

I have bins for copper, brass, and Lead.

The rest, aluminium, steel and mixed metals including silver plate, screws and bolts, tin and cutlery I give to the charity that help me.

Aluminium is £600 a ton but you need an awful lot to get a ton.

The charity took away a Transit van full of mixed metals a few weeks ago, they got £58 for it.

Well, I’ll never amass a transit van full of any metal. Don’t find any lead at the jumble or CShop. Last bucket of brass and copper got me £20 from the scrapyard which pays for a trip to Aldi.
Thanks, nice to know I’m not missing out on other metals.
