interesting find. about two days ago we had a large trash pick up by my grandpas neighborhood. everybody had a whole bunch of stuff in their front yard ready to be picked up by the garbage truck the next day. as i was driving around looking at what people had in their front yard to be thrown out i drove by this picture. so i turned around and went back to look at it closer. i got out and walked up to it and notice the frame had age to it and so i looked on the back side and notice the paper covering the back. i ripped a little bit off to get a better view of the back of the canvas and notice flat head nails and the canvas was pretty stained so i figured it must have some age to it. the signature appears to be "langabeer" and a date that says 1897 underneath. so was wondering if i did the right thing by grabbing it or should i just of left it be? i figured hey its free and the people didnt want it anymore so why not take it!i tried to doing some online research when i got home but didnt come across much. was wondering if anyone had any info on the artist and era? thank you for your time! sea1.jpg sea2.jpg sea2.jpg sea3.jpg

I'd have snagged it too, for no other reason than it's old.

Its got almost a 30s feel to it ,yet its so much older . At first glance I thought "30's folk art" . I actually like it .

Yeah I immediately was kinda shocked to see it out there since it's pretty big and old but I just couldn't let it go to the dump! Johnny it does have a 30s feel and the subject matter does have a folk art vibe to it. Just couldn't find much info on the artist unfortunately. I assume the frame is original to the piece maybe

Does have an interesting look to it. I think it is by an amateur, which is why you can't find anything on the artist. Looks like it might be a pastel, which is consistent with it being behind glass. I would have grabbed it as well.

Its really different. So unusual for that date. I like it too. Positively would have rescued that!

Yeah it does have an amateur look to it by the rocks. Maybe it was just his style to look amateur who knows! It is different almost like out of a story book look to it.

Can you post a close-up of the clouds and the spray above the rocks? It is difficult to tell from you photographs if it is pastel. Pastel on canvas isn't the norm.

I see brush strokes. It almost looks like mixed media. Maybe oil with pastels on top. See what other people have to say.
