It seems like toys and jewelry is still pretty collectible.
The unique, unusual, with provenance, still seems to command a price.

Does anyone think that people who invested in "limited edition" stuff - particularly resin figurines (even pristine in the box) will ever see any of their investment returned in resale? Just curious; I've run across gobs of it... and never understood the lure...is it just me?

WATERFORD CRYSTAL! Not antique, but prices have tanked. Yet I cannot resist buying it when I see it cheap. At least my heirs will have something Pretty to put my ashes in when I'm gone. Knowing them they will then sell it cheap in an antique mall in Cleveland........:doctor:

I sell it cheap when I can ... after buying it even cheaper. Found a Waterford cross in an estate sale for a whole dollar. Sold it for $10 - a 900% profit is good enough for me.:kiss::greedy::greedy:

As for the resin stuff, with any luck it already peaked and will sink into oblivion with all due dispatch. One of the rules of antiques is "collectibles aren't". I do see some collector plates selling locally, but not for real money and only if someone likes the design.

About 5 years ago the Antique Trades Gazette had an article about the price of "brown furniture" I liked the quote "people will look back at this time as the golden age of buying antique furniture"

In my bedroom is a huge box of Norman Rockwell plates .. gifted to me by my ex mother-in-law who passed away some time ago. There must be more than 50 plates in the box, probably much more .. all separately boxed up with their certificates of authenticity. She must have been collecting them for several years, the box weighs a ton and I'm unable to lift it. I want it out of my apartment.. I'm thinking of posting a "free" notice in the lobby. WHY on earth she would collect so MANY of these I will never know ... Joy. :)

Indeed, as a collector I've had a hell of a good time these past 10-15 years, acquiring pieces i could only dream about 25-30 years ago so, the depression has been very good to me.

Give them to a Thrift Shop and take a tax deduction. That's my advice to people who want me to buy their relatives collector plate sets, I try to let them down gently.

Either that or gift them to a skeet club! They'd make great targets - nice and colorful on one side and white on the other.

That's why I go to one local rummage sale on bag day ... when they have it at least. I'm there when they open the doors on day, and then for the bag sale. Get the goodies on both ends.(LOL) It's a synagogue and they price Judaica cheap sometimes. I've scored all sorts of bits there for close to nothing including an etrog box. It had been priced $40, but a piece of the wood veneer popped off. Someone reglued it and it was still on the Judaica table on bag sale day. I gave it to a local rabbi, whose wife just about danced; she'd always wanted one and never wanted to spend the $$$.
