Africa is a big continent. More like a tribe or country is what I'm asking. I doubt it is as recent as you are implying but not very old etiher, I think. Find it strange that the big nails are rusty and the small head ones look new.

There is no one country or tribe that I can honestly attribute this to.
I find it though, completely understandable that you would doubt anything I have to say , without me showing you an EXACT copy with a price tag from the country of Mali on it , that I personally bought in July !

From your close ups, I see no dust, no dirt, no atmospheric pollution of any kind , indoor or outdoor that would normally stick to the nooks and crannies of the sisal fiber that comes from east Africa , but I do see a rusty nail that is all together too common an item, to where they're used on even the most recent of African carvings.

So maybe it's older than two months ....by a year .
But that's just my opinion , after hanging out with the biggest African art dealer in the city....for almost 10 years.

A lot from what you saying make sense. The sisal hair looks too clean. On the other hand, the woven cover shows a bit more wear. The wood also have some chips and scuffs. Maybe they tried to make it appear older but with the newer nails and fibers, likely recent.
Would be nice to take a look at your example.

Cute little guy, but isn't this what is referred to as airport art?
