Found these gems at estate auction, were described as "Pope" chairs. Have never seen before and Google no help!! Any and all info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks IMG-20160908-WA0000.jpg IMG-20160908-WA0001.jpg IMG-20160908-WA0002.jpg

Judging just on the simplicity of the arms, legs and spacers, I would guess 1940s-60s.

Great to know ! Any guess on the possible value? Curious if we got a good deal....
Love learning about this stuff, thank you!

To me these look like the kind of chairs that are not regularly bought & sold , neither are they in heavy demand, so finding a current value on them may be difficult.
What did you pay for them ?

Have heard of Deacon's chairs in reference to chairs of this type but never Pope's chair.

As I said, we are learning, we paid 100 bucks, is that too much or worth a little more? Spanish Colonial, Throne chairs seem to be what they fall under....

I dont think $100 is too much . They have a "look" . I do however think they are later , more 1960s .I base that on the lack of wear for chairs that are supposed to be 100-200 years old . But Im no expert .

These chairs remind me of the furniture that Pier 1 Imports sold before they became what they are now. Do any of you remember Pier 1 back in the late 60's, early 70's when they had some unique and interesting items?

    Absolutely.
One of the best places to shop at that time.
    Wicker furniture, India batik.
There was one in San Mateo, but the best one was in S. F.

Back then, Pier 1 was not carrying the mass marketing items you see today. They imported furniture from different countries and they had some very nice and unique pieces and not considered reproductions. It was a totally different company back then. My Aunt and Uncle had a dining set from Pier 1 that they purchased in the late 60's and the chairs were very similar to what you have.

Thanks, quite possible comma if that is the case I thought might be able to find some sort of markings or stamp with its maker...hmmm

Try searching under vintage Mexican leather dining chairs or Spanish leather Dining Chairs. A lot of what they imported came from those countries.

I saw something similar at an antique shop, priced at $400 each. They were not in the good shape yours seem to be, is the leather on yours nice, or brittle?
The leather on yours seems to be thick, which is good.
