Shaker Workshops probably not antique but what is it?

I came across this and have no idea exactly what it is used for or what it is called. It stands just under 17" tall and the trays can be turned from top to bottom on the grooved dowel. Of course it is very heavy and well built. It just doesn't seem practical to me though. Thanks for any info.

Agreed, I'd say you did well!
It's a reproduction of a table top double candlestand that can be adjusted, handy back in the day when trying to get the best light on reading a book or sewing for example.
There were also floor models, probably for work related tasks.

 

I have an old Shaker Workshop catalog from 2001. It is called a "Shoemaker's Candlestand" and sold for $172.50 twenty years ago. Great piece!

Thanks again everyone. Sometimes you just know something is well made and a quality piece right away. My best find was a Signed Ansel Adams silver gelatin photo, Moon over Half Dome, I bought for $1.38 and sold for just under 3 grand. The clarity of that print was just stunning and stood apart from anything I had ever seen.
