This has been in my family since the 1800's but I have no idea of the brand, year, or any other information about it. Can anyone help? Thanks.

THe back says more about a violin than the front. A picture of that taken in daylight would help.

Also, be sure to examine the bow. They can often be as valuable or more so than the violin.

Brad's link has some good information, but the evaluation of violins is highly specialized, much more so than evaluating guitars, for example.
I've been playing violins for more than 50 years, and could still not evaluate one even if I had it in hand.
I'd suggest a reputable violin shop; there is a list of reputable shops at the American Federation of Violin and Bow makers http://www.afvbm.org/
The bow does not look like anything special to me, but only a professional can tell you whether it is $50 or $1,000 or more, and the same would be true of the violin.
