    Hi! It's me again! :)

I've got this handmade box. Nice hand painted floral decor and a lock. The bottom is a black lacquer. I don't think there is significant age, but I don't see another, similar one out there.

I'm wondering if there was a special use for the box. Or, alternatively, is it just a nice little decorative piece for general safe keeping of goodies. Any ideas are welcomed! :) thanks, Sally

Size? Think the decoration looks more ethnic/folk than PA Dutch. Maybe Poland or Mexico?

I've seen boxes with that decoration that I knew came from Mexico mid-20th C., but those I've seen were rectangular solids. Get a good wood person to ID the exact type of wood to better guess where it is from.

My WAG for size is that the two short sides are 8" long and the long side is 11.3". The dime in the picture is 0.705 in. Diameter. So just take the dime and roll it along an edge. Every complete revolution covers 2.21". If you are very good at mentally rolling dimes that is.

The flowers look stenciled rather than hand painted, although some of the other decoration on the box is hand done. It looks like a Mexican embroidered blouse. Flag box, maybe, if it's the right size?

    Sorry, I had to take care of a customer ;) The size is about what @springfld.arsenal said: 11" x 7" x 7" x 3".

The painting is all hand done, not stenciled. It's the right size for a very small flag @evelyb30 ;)

    I'm liking the Mexico thought...Thanks everyone!! :)
