She can - IF everyone will just let it go................allow her and the allegedly stalked and the nay sayers hash it out - it has NOTHING to do with the rest of us. On which note, I'm out of this conversation - I graduated from High School years ago............................

I like the table with the curved legs Brad! Love the top of it. Love that Kralik basket too, great pics! DSCN2918.JPG DSCN2917.JPG
A few pieces found this weekend. Some family cabinet cards & photos, a vintage AB bead necklace, some naughty pigs, and an 1800's autograph book.

Tyeldom3, in your second photo I like the photo third from the left (young girl with muff(?). Do you know about when that was taken? Just curious.

And I love the table/console behind the (muffed) child.

    Thanks yourturntoloveit
I like it too, and she's got a cute little dog beside her. I don't know the age of it. I tried the other day to piece the puzzle together of some of the names on the back of these, but didn't get too far. I'll try again today. She's ID'd as Nettie Benjamin on the back, and she's in another pic too, and looks to be a few years older.

Hmmmmm....That dog....Weren't these photos supposed to have rather long exposure times? Remarkable that dog should be so sharp. Wonder if it's Taxidermy.
(If shutter speeds were down to fractions of a second by this time then nevermind.)

Ewwww, a taxidermied dog -- surely the photographer wouldn't do that to get a sweet picture of a little girl. :(

    Thanks Don and yourturntoloveit :)
I wouldn't know about the dog, I have a lot to learn about old photos. The dog does have such a silly look on his face though, doesn't he, lol.
Yourturntoloveit thank you for finding that! I also found in the 1885 Iowa census a Nettie Benjamin age 4 in Algona. So if that's her, it's pretty close to the same age in the pic.

    Hi,
Photographers did use taxidermy. I have one with my aunt as a child with a chicken. If you know anything about LIVE chickens they are never still for more than a few seconds unless you hyponotize them. My uncle thought me how to do that and it drove my Gram crazy to see some of her hens lying there in a row. What drove her even more mad was I would not show her how to do it. My uncle made me promise not to show her.:D

The little girl sure does not look comfortable in that dress
Brad it is so good to see someone actually finish a project. I had many but purged most of them recently. Except a few I can't let go of. One is a nice oak table my brother found on the curb that needs rehabed. Another one of those thin shell hanging lamps that was crushed in storage.I think it would make cute kitchy though wind chimes. I started one and just didnt have time to finish yet

Another I have is a sweet little birds eye maple desk in pieces, I kept, someday.....but good to see, you are good at it!

@Manson's - do we ever truly leave high school?(LOL) I'm afraid the biggest thing I found this week was an MS attack. Right now I feel older than you do.

The painted furniture is selling like hotcakes..... I still refinish some things but they tend to sit longer, all things considered. That MCM desk didn't last three hours in the booth. I think I paid $3.00 for it at auction because it had a very thin warped top. I just slapped a 3/4" high density fiberboard top on it I bought at the thrift store for $1.00 and painted it. Sold for $125.00. Not big money but great profit.

I swore I would never be painting furniture but that is where the market is right now. All of the things I paint, either were painted originally or have some defect that needs to be covered up. Consequently, I can buy these things pretty cheaply and sell them cheaply. I rarely sell anything over $150.00. Some of the dealers where I am cut their prices to the bone, sometimes to the detriment of us all. I tend to focus on better, more interesting, paint finishes and a little higher price points. There are some other dealers doing the same so I really need to be sharp.

The guys that own the mall do a good job at promotion and really move the merchandise. There is about 9500 square feet in two stores in the same building. The owners reserve about 1/4 of the space for themselves and take consignments. I am in the larger of the two stores where they have a smaller presence and there are more dealers. I think there are about 30 dealers overall.

It is not an antique mall. There are a fair number of antiques but the focus is really on decor. We have a good mix of dealers and everyone has their focus. The dealer mix includes a large dealer space with vintage clothing and jewelry, a dealer with candles and food items, and another that has a small art gallery. One of the dealers that does the best sells new country kitschy home accessories (much to the chagrin of most of us who work hard to find and refurbish things).

It appears to be a good model for success. It is the only place locally that really has a following. The more traditional antique malls struggle. Here is the link to our store's facebook page.

    Interesting...

When a certain “Highly” respected regular male poster threated a female poster (and I quote: “I have money, I will find you”) on the other board, hardly any of the regular posters came to this female poster’s defense. Instead, they “took sides” and choose to defend this “Highly” respected male poster.

Then this same highly respected male poster threatens not only me, but brings my children (ages 2 and 9) into the conversation,......and somehow he’s the victim according to some of these regular posters? Somehow he became the victim only after he was confronted at his public place of business regarding his threats? These regular posters “took sides” and somehow made him the victim? Don’t you find that just the least bit disturbing? That some of these folks, who have been posting on these boards for years, made him the victim of wronging?

Then there’s the female poster (you all know who she is) who for whatever reasons of her own, choose to launch a campaign of hate & lies against me for no good reason whatsoever. There was hardly anyone who came to my defence when they knew what she was posting were complete lies. Instead, they “took sides” and somehow she became a victim of stalking? Why? Because she was/is a regular poster that mostly all of the other regular posters “respect”. F-ing ridiculous!

Oh! Then there’s the off-board negative discussion about me by some of the regular posters who I had no prior confrontations with. Why would these folks be speaking so negative of me when we had no prior dealings? No prior exchange of bad words or blood. When their negative discussions were copied & pasted for all to see,....again,....sides were chosen. And whose side was chosen? It damn sure wasn’t mine!

I had to ask myself...Why do these folks choose to be on the side of wrong? Why do I almost always have to defend myself when I come here and all I do is post finds and try to help folks if and when I can? Then ol’ Johnny-boy (who I had no prior bad blood or words with) basically said it all and gave the reason(s) within this thread:

JEALOUSY, ENVY AND HATE! These are their reasons! These are folks who are either half or more my senior and these are their reasons. These are supposed to be the "mature" adults who teach the "immature" youth such as myself. These are our leaders? What a joke!

Whatever the rights and wrongs may be, can't we just let it all lie?

AF, I have no problem with that, but it appears in my absence, there was yet another unwarranted attack on me that was thankfully defended by others. I haven't been here for a few days and according to some of the replies above (I assume some deleted) there was an attack. Just pure BS! This is one of the reasons why I chose not to post here anymore. Unwarranted and unwanted negative attention........even after I'm no longer posting.

Im sure she would like to be the same as everyone else and come here with peace. But being attacked by people who you did not even know hated you is quite shocking....The last one called her a poser fake and fraud then a apology which you can't take those words back.(by the way that negative post still stands) We could get back to antiques if not for the attacks ie this morning......no one would like that. I stood back when the fireworks started and not here to make trouble and never have. But she is my friend and and I will no longer sit by while the attacks occur

Yikes! .... I guess I am happily oblivious to all the behind the scenes goings on here and over at the AB in the past. I find it very unfortunate that anyone should be attacked and have to defend themselves for what they do. The board will be poorer for this kind of attitude in whatever form it manifests itself :depressed:

Sounds like the root of the problem was Lithium based

    Maybe lay off the Lithium
