Featured Thoughts on this 18k Diamond Finnish ring? 1925

This pawn shop has made the final clearance price on this 18k diamond Finnish ring from 1925 (U4 date code). The final price is $270 and gold weight is $190. The diamonds seem oddly cut no? Off round? The side diamonds are like pyramids... they stick up quite a bit and are pointy. what are your guy's thoughts on it? It fits me and I quite like it but I normally don't pay much over scrap for my gold rings.....

Now that you mention that about the center stone the bottom prong doesn't appear to be touching the stone? Maybe I'm wrong? The setting is definitely oval however....

 

I'd say it is a very good buy! These are old cut stones, just need to test them to confirm they are diamonds

Might they be older than the date code of 1925?

 

Of course, these cuts are older, lots of stones were unset fom older out of fashion jewellery to be re used!

If I'm not sure, I usually only buy If I know I can sell without making a loss then if I fall out of love with it I move it on. If the diamonds are valuable enough to offset the gold overpay then go for it!. You didn't really need me to say all that did you but I can't offer any advice on the quality of the diamonds!.

 

I may indeed go back and get it! It's a nice chunky band with old diamonds. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't anything blatantly wrong with it! I should also note that on the inside shank there are initials inscribed with the date 1934

There isn't.
The centre stone looks like an old mine cut, with that slightly squarish shape.

 

I got the ring! I made a mistake originally, I thought the U4 date code was 1925 but actually it is 1901!

 

I would have gotten that ring, too.

 

So it is. I didn't even check it before.
1901 makes more sense with the diamond cuts.

The center is Old Mine and the sides look like old table cuts...just guessing based on the photo. More research is needed to be sure

First there needs to be good definition of what a "gypsy ring" is.A number of the rings on the link use "gypsy ring" as a key word .
