This was found in a bag filled with political pins from New Jersey, but this is totally different than those, and I have no idea if this person has anything to do with Jersey or not, but just wanted to mention it.
Who made this pendant & is this man known or perhaps someone just had it made of their family member? Thanks for your time.
    Measures about 1 7/8" high.
I think the bottom of the mark reads "31", but can't tell what the rest of it reads.

Wow, sure does look like him! Thanks so much Marie!:):)

I've been looking around, and can't find anything quite like this pendant, with a photo in it. Still looking though. Wish I could make out the mark on the back.

I had thought Wilson also but after looking at a lot of photos of him I'm less sure. The back mark looks like two acorns with I U 34 to me.

Good find, Marie! It sure looks like Wilson in his early 20s. Here's a comparison of pics. Both wearing pince-nez, same shape jaw, nose, eye lids and lips/mouth. Usually the ears are a good ID element, but too much damage of the ear area in the pic. He looks younger in your pic.

Thank you SIS! I'm Still on the fence about it too. Mostly because if the back marking has the number 31 (I'm pretty sure it's 31 because I've looked with a loop) he died before 1931 and wondering why would there be a pendant of him after his death? IDK I'm just clueless because I can't find anything like it. (Just thought perhaps the number might have been the year made, but again IDK?)
Thank you Susan so much for the help and comparison pictures. It really does look like him.:):)
    Thank you all so much

Maybe a union mark. Much political stuff has union logos on it. Usually lithographer union on celluloid.

Acorns with IU is the logo for International Jewelry Worker's Union, which was chartered in 1900.

Just to add a little interesting info on the man who supplied the info, Ulysses Dietz is a museum curator, gggrandson of Pres. ulysses Grant and a descendant of Dietz family - noted manufacturers of lanterns, lamps and a multitude of other brass notables. He has been involved in many TV documentaries.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Hm, I'm also on the fence about whether it's Woodrow Wilson or not. My main concern is that Wilson appears to have what I'll call "hidden" top eyelids where a fold of skin comes down and covers the part of the lid that touches the eyeball. The man in the damaged photo has visible eyelids and compared to Wilson's his eyes have almost a wide-eyed look. -- Otherwise, there is quite a resemblance in what I can see.

Wilson was born in 1856. The collar, tie and jacket in the pendant photo look more post-1900 to me than would have been worn by a man circa 1880 (when he was 24.) Plus the hairline looks too high for the younger Wilson. Just my impression.

I softened a few of the cracks if this helps at all.

Wow! You all are so amazing! Thank you sooooo much Terry, Susan, Figtree, Bakersgma & SIS!
Terry was right about it being a union mark, Susan that is fabulous information!!
Fig & Bakers, I too am still not sure. I agree about the hairline as well, it just doesn't seem quite right. If the pendant was made sometime around or after 1900, then he would have at least been age 44 or older. Unless of course the photo itself had been taken at an earlier point in time, and put in the pendant later on.
SIS, that looks much better, thanks! Hmmmm, maybe I can try to get a better photo of it.

Tried to take better pics, here's one but I don't think I can get much better. I played around with this one a bit, but still can't figure out how SIS softened the cracks!!

All I did was clone the cracks with a photo editor.

Thanks SIS :), I use picmonkey for editing, but only do the basic edits, because I don't know what the heck I'm doing, LOL!

My old laptop crashed over the weekend and I had to go buy a replacement with Windows 10 on it. My old favorite simple and easy photo editing program won't work with the new operating system. :( I'm using my Photoshop Elements which is not my favorite and I struggle.

I'm sorry about your laptop SIS, I hope you can find a way to use your old favorite again with that system. :cat:
