I picked these 6 chairs up at an antique store with no information on them. You can see hand tooling marks on the chairs. There are no screws, just round top nails.

These are in a pseudo-French style but I think they are probably Italian. Hard to tell age but likely mid 20th century at the earliest and even up to a few decades later.

I was of the same opinion as brad about it being Italian, I was thinking 70s. Until I saw the back, now I'm not sure. Might be earlier 1930s.

Someone has stripped these and the wood has dried.

I think this is common machine made markings. Good craftsmen would have sanded smooth.

I don't think those machine markings would have even been left on a 1930s piece. Remember, 1950 was 66 years ago and 1966 was 50 years ago. A lot can happen to wood in that time period. Plus, if you look at the back, there is no rounding to the edges at all, nor any attempt at sculpting.

I picked up a set of 6, with what y'all have gathered what would have been a good price to pay per chair?

I was actually thinking the same, Italian mid-century. Thanks again Brad.

Yes, you are probably right. Didn't think of that.

A very good price would be $5-10.00 per chair. A reasonable price would be in the $20.00 range. At retail, I would expect these more in the $35.00-40.00 range per chair here. I am sure these could be found higher in some locations. They are not a style that fits our semi-rural Midwest sensibilities.
