Chanel Silk Scarf ?

It's impossible to tell what your scarf is from your poor quality photographs. Is it signed? Does it have a tag? What material is it? Is the hem hand-rolled?

Reminds me a bit of Hermes as we have about 10 coming up in our March auction. Like Debora said, hard to tell without a tag. The Hermes I have handled have 'HERMES' somewhere in the silk and the hem is hand rolled.

 

There are ways to identify designer scarves without a tag (which have often fallen off or been removed by the original owner.) Both CHANEL AND HERMÈS scarves are signed. They are made of silk or silk twill. They have hems that have been rolled and stitched by hand. Not sure what I'm seeing here but, from the photographs, looks like an inexpensive polyester scarf with a machine-stitched hem.

I agree, especially given the way it's frayed.

 

classical Hermès is always square, 90*90 centimeters. besides the carré there are others with 140. all other measures are post-2007.
weight is always 65 grams.

 

Best not to look for exact measurements on preowned scarves. None of my authentic Hermès scarves are perfect squares anymore from years of dry cleaning.

 

then you should change the cleaning shop. I had to sell off mother's 30 scarves and they were all square.

 

A good cleaner ought to stretch them properly.

 

They’re only slightly off and I don’t personally care. Just didn’t want anyone to pass on what could be an authentic piece because measurements are slightly off. More important IMO is that my cleaner doesn’t flatten the edges.

 

Yes! As with any luxury item, one has to be extremely careful in one's choice of dry cleaner. A flattened hem on a CHANEL or HERMÈS scarf will destroy its value.

One good way to identify a Hermes is the roll is done towards the front of the fabric.

 

So very informative ladies I'm sorry my pictures are bad . It is silk and very old the edges show what looks like ( hard to see even with magnifer ) 30 strands or so of silk thread gathered at edge and hand knotted ? This is repeated all around the edges . I do not see a name anywhere .

 

Okay. It's silk. And vintage. Could be Japanese. Hem to my eye looks like it's been pulled away.

Agree. Interesting discussion but the OP has a scarf without any value as far as resale goes. IMO only salable if thrown into a scarf lot.

 

I use those as gift wrap.

 

Yes! I was thinking that it could be purposed in that way.

THey're great for wrapping oddly shaped things. And it's eco friendly and often cheap, too.
