Hello, new to this group and hope to get some answers on what this is. I want to say i remember somebody said this was a "gentlemens chest" but i couldn't find anything similar searching that name.

Would also like to replace the plastic knobs which i assume are not period correct. Any information on the make or classification would be helpful.

    Thanks in advance

Just curious but . . . are there shelves or additional drawers behind the two (side) doors or are there "hanging bars" (for clothes) on each side of the middle drawers?

Also I can't help but add that I am seeing a "face" (complete with hair, two eyes, nose, and slightly grinning mouth) which ends mid-way of the middle section.

Lol. Thanks for the visual that i will always see now!

The doors just has bars for hanging clothes. Behind the mirror is a little cubby i assume is/was for hats

    Hi,
Looks very 1930s/1940s. Are you referring to the three knobs which look like glass, the ones on the two doors and cubby? The rest of the knobs and handles look period. A gentleman' chest is shorter. This looks like a gentleman's wardrobe. The style is often referred to as "Waterfall".

Art Deco style. I would say 1930s.
    May possibly be English

Yes the glass looking 3 knobs are plastic. Any idea what originals would look like? Also the interior is just wood but looks to have been stripped at some point. Would it have been lined with a decorative paper like an old trunk?

    Hi,
I think the three knobs would have matched the two on the top drawer.

Cluttercloset has this right. Art Deco double chifferobe. 1930s or so. May, indeed, be English. Greg is probably correct in that the knobs would have matched the drawer knobs. Can't tell from the pics but these are sometimes celluloid.

Yes they are, but in this case The pulls on the drawers look correct.
And if the door pulls had been celluloid, then the drawers would have also been celluloid.
I agree with Greg. They probably matched what is there now.

Now I can't stop thinking of Chairy from Pee Wee's Playhouse.
