Ercol Chairs? Need help identifying.

Hi,
I am wanting to sell some dining chairs that have been in the family for a few decades. Before selling I would like to know if they are Ercol. I recognised the look of them, there are no markings which say Ercol. The only marking I can find is a stamp underneath which has the British standards heart logo and says 'BS 1960 JK 2056'
Can anyone help?

Thank you so much for your replies. That is the exact mark on ours. My parents were going to sell them for £40 for 6!! Thank goodness I checked!

 

If you're ever in doubt, Ercol the company will very happily identify their chairs for you.

Your BS 1960 is the British Standard mark for 1960, so will date them near enough. You can still get these repolished if you like and Ercol and others will sell you seat pads.

Brilliant furniture. Solid elm and beech, set up an Italian immigrant called Ercolani, who came from near Naples, modern day Herculaneum. I have forty year old Ercol chairs - you can get new cushions and webbing, frames good as new.

 

Tell them I'll give them 50 !

 

Hi I have 4 of these Ercol chairs too. They have been in our family about 50 years. My parents always said they were ercol but I wasn’t sure until I read about the BS 1960 stamp. I have a table as well which has a white top and metal white legs do you know if this is Ercol, my parents always insisted it was but there is no marking on the table at all. Thanks

Hello I wonder if anyone can help me, I have 4 chairs and dining table, all chairs have B.S G.F 1960 2056 and the dining table has a label that says ercol. Is this vintage or antique?

 

Vintage. Antique is defined as over a hundred years old.

 

vintage 1960.........the word by itself is meaningless without a date..
