Does your pen have a serial number? I think after 1991 they started adding serial numbers. I believe the serial number is evenly engraved on the gold band that attaches the clip to the pen. THis also means there are a lot of used Montblanc pens without serial numbers.

Here are a few websites with info on detecting real from fake Montblancs.

No serial number, it says Germany, I think it could be prior to 1991

I've collected fountain pens for years. It looks like a real MB to me. The nib looks right. Clean. Crisp. 14kt. Knockoff MBs often have very crappy, hastily punched-out nibs.

Also, it's a fountain pen. Fountain pens are harder to fake just because of the effort required to cut the nibs and punch the impressions on them properly.

If you're buying Montblancs online, one easy way to tell if the guy behind the other screen is a ripoff artist or not, is to ask if you can buy three, four, or maybe half a dozen MB pens from him.

    If he says 'yes'.

    RUN. Fast. Now.

Anyone who can supply you with half a dozen MB pens at discount prices either didn't get them legally, or they're bloody fakes. Because MB stuff is bloody expensive.

I have an almost identical one, bought by Pa for Ma in the early 1950s. No serial. That looks fine to me.

my ex SIL bought me a MB ball point pen & pencil set in black for my birthday.

You can tell someone has little or no class....when they offer those as opposed to the fountain pen !

Or else they just weren't taught any better. That one looks like the real deal; no one in their right minds makes a fake with a 14k nib.

It looks very real to me :)
    I own a ballpoint because, being left-handed I can't really use a fountain pen. :p
As they say: Noblesse oblige ;)
