I have a few original paintings by Florence A Kroger and many hand drawn pastels of her work. I am having a difficult time getting a value of her work.
Welcome George! You may or may not get input on value as that is not what this site is generally for.
The "OK" before the other signature makes me think the the drawing was an illustration used for a commercial purpose. I'm not familiar with the artist, so don't know if her drawings were used for books, cards, calendars, etc.? And welcome from me, too!
We often look at eBay sold listings to get an idea of the value: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...lete=1&LH_Sold=1&rt=nc&_trksid=p2045573.m1684 Here's one that looks similar to your piece: http://www.ebay.com/itm/ANTIQUE-194...674?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c52d0bc3a Yours may well have added value as the original artwork. By the way, welcome to the board! ... Dave
Not sure if this will allow me to reply, but here goes anyway. Florence Kroger was my grandmother's cousin. Working on family history, I came upon here some time last year when I noticed that her listing on an early census (1920, I think) showed her occupation as "artist" or maybe it said "commercial artist." That obviously piqued my curiosity. From what little I've found, she was a commercial artist and illustrator, doing work for magazines, calendars and ultimately lithographic prints. The early comment is spot on that the "OK" and initials is likely from an art director or someone else. I'd be interested in hearing more.
Florence Kroger was a well known artist and illustrator in her day. None of the comparables above are original artworks. (The one that sold as an original painting for best offer has been relisted as a lithograph.) As such, you really can't compare their values to what you have. Here are some actual paintings that have sold. Looks like your kitten drawing may be a study for a completed painting sold here. Keep in mind that drawings and watercolors generally sell for less than oil paintings. https://new.liveauctioneers.com/sea...eyword":"florence kroger","status":"archive"}
