Black coral? Or?

I’m not sure enough to positively ID these black beads but do you think they could be coral?.
Most of the beads have little imperfections as you find in coral beads but I’ve not seen it black or polished so highly?
If not coral any suggestions please?

I really don't know!. If it wasn't for the flaws I would say onyx or similar. I may go and drop some lemon juice on the end and see what happens.

The one thing I am noticing is the longer the bead, the less likely the coral is to remain straight. So maybe the length of your beads can tell you something? Those "holes" seem like something that would come from coral, being that it is NOT a stone to begin with....but, alas, I am not an authority.

 

What do those black tubes feel like (weight-wise)? Black coral is very light weight.

 

Not lightweight. Maybe something dyed?. I'll have to get some black coral to compare!

 

Black coral is lightweight as quirky said, and warm to the touch. If it is a piece of branch, it usually has tiny bumps on the surface, as if it has goose bumps/chicken skin. In that case the ends show one or more rings, like growth rings on a tree. It is rarely shiny, and rarely uniform in shape.

My guess for your beads is onyx, but the strange wavy pattern on the end of this one makes me think maybe glass?
