Rosewood Bed

    Hello everyone,

I bought a bed on eBay the other night. The seller stated that most of it is solid rosewood. I've had a few people look at the pictures I have tell me they believe it's veneered. This wouldn't shock me, as most "rosewood" antiques are veneered.

I was wondering if any of you can identify if it's indeed solid or veneered by these pictures? Also what kind of value does a bed like this have? Thanks in advance!

Im no wood expert , but it LOOKS like rosewood to me ? Its a very pretty bed , so theres decorative value if nothing else . Most antique beds have to have custom mattresses , but with foam beds now that shouldnt be too expensive . Im guessing this is a full size ?

It is rosewood. My question is, is it a veneered rosewood or solid? I believe it is a full size.

It's hard to say but it's a lovely bed.

It doesn't look like veneer in the first photograph but a close-up would be more helpful.

Looks like it could be solid. The top piece across the foot looks like it could be the width of a single log. I see three boards in the headboard. It would be very unusual to be solid but veneers are usually used differently than this for a more consistent decorative effect.

Do you have an educated guess as to value on this?

Very nice piece, but did you buy for yourself or to resell?

I plan on using the lumber from it for guitars actually. That's why I want to get an idea on the value as it is first. If someone has an idea of the value please pm me here.

I kind of agree with you. I'm looking for another one like it and haven't found one. I just wish someone could give me some info on it.

I doubt you will find another. I think this is either crafted by an individual or is colonial in origin. If it is indeed solid, it just doesn't fit with the high style rosewood furniture made by the furniture shops in the early to mid 19th century. Stylistically, it fits, albeit a bit mousey in form for the materials and how it uses the wood is odd. Rosewood was generally reserved for the best furniture and this falls a bit short.

What a shame to cut it up.
It really has a nice solid comforting look to it.

Veneer is a thin layer applied over a solid piece, you should be able to see it at the edges. I would be surprised if this were veneered.
