    Hi,
I have these 3 carvings and just wanted to double check on them. I think the first couple are true pieces, not sure about the 3rd one.
#1 Miniature mask signed by Willard Gallic Jr from Port Alberni. I have no idea who Tracey Wallis is. It is 4 1/4" x 2 1/4"W.
    Any information appreciated.
    Thanks for looking!

The second one is signed Gertrude Robertson, maybe a napkin holder. It is 4 3/4" x 3"H x 2 1/2".

The 3rd one I'm not sure about. It is signed but I wasn't able to find anything. It is 9"H x 2 1/4".

    ya they're all good !
You could have used the title HEY KOMO......& I'd have come running !!! :hilarious::hilarious:

The 3rd is what I call a classic student pole.
A lot of artists studying up at K'san , seem to have produced these single figure 10 inch or so poles in a wide range of styles, but mostly in the K'san ( tsimshian) design motifs .

Other than Norman & Issac , I'm not well versed in the Tait family .....of which there's more than one. But I think the carver to be northern.

The 2nd is a killer whale , and napkin holder sounds about right.

Excellent! Thank-you for the information komokwa:)
I really like the miniature mask, I haven't seen one before.
Yes, I found information on Norman Tait but nothing else so I wasn't sure - thanks for the confirmation!

The pole could be classified as a Model House Post...

for a mini mask.........it's VERY well done !!
As a matter of fact ....if you only showed the front and side ....I would have said it's 12 inches to 14 inches tall....it's that well proportioned.
I don't know the artist , & it was likely sold in the community where it was made.

While I'd buy it for 50 bucks...( cheap bastard that I am....) , I'd say at retail ...$ 175 would not be out of line !

    You'd never guess !!

    TORONTO !!!

These are K'san Village house posts which are to be found just inside the entrance to the main Spadina subway station. Installed in 1979 and carved from British Columbia cedar by artists from the Gitksan Tribe of Hazelton B.C., the posts represent an owl, wolf, and hawk. House posts are much shorter than totem poles and were traditionally used as support posts inside a house.

Alcheringa Gallery has run a miniature show for many years now, all named artists, and the prices they get will knock your socks off !!!

That would be pretty to cool to have a couple of support posts inside a house. I'm always on the lookout for a totem pole that I could put in my yard - one day I'll find one that is affordable.
I'll have to check out Alcheringa Gallery, thanks!

I don't know, I've never thought about the height. It is one of those things that you (hopefully) come across and you know it will work.
    Do you have some?
