Help with Unit / Uniform Help

    *Hope this isn't against the rules but am posting this also in the photo group.*

    Hello!

    Was wondering if I could get some help with the Unit / Uniform of this fellow!

    Looks to be 27th SD? South Dakota? C. 1870's - 1880's.

    Any help with the medals would also be great!

    He is so handsome. It's a really good photo: you can see the twinkle in his eyes. He looks so alive.
