Just my 2 cents, but when cataloging for an auction house here in the states, the respected term is chaise lounge because the term fainting couch is outdated and makes the interest decrease.

What about Divan? Think all the terms work for this. We currently have this nice one in our Midwest shop at $199.00 with no takers so far for nearly a month.

Yeah, I am not surprised, takes up a lot of room and no back as a couch/sofa would have.

    Divans have two high ends.

ank you all for your help. Does anyone have any idea of what it might be worth? And who I could approach to sell? It’s currently in St Ives but we have the means to drop it anywhere between St Ives and South Wales which is where we live. Thanks in advance!

I have noticed that the "fainting couches" generally seem to have a lower incline on the back, with the chaises being closer to upright?

Local auction house is a good bet, although there's some reasonable dealers in Lskeard and Truro, from memory - and a good furniture one at Exeter Airport. At a guess one to two huundred pounds.

a chaise longue - on the continent anyway - has often a gliding mechanism that allows to regulate the head part and sometimes the mostly shorter foot part to a level position.
a divan is rather flat with cushions on the walls of a room.
what brad shows is a daybed for me; for a small nap in between.

true. and the divan could be a separated room with old mattresses around the walls and cushions à discrétion without end in a hippie commune. and hookahs and mushrooms in the garden and we're all young again ...what magic.

In the meantime, the wood is walnut and the piece is 1880s-90s.
