Featured Vintage bowl Stamped "ITALY" plus number

An Italian guy ???....

 

By the manner of the marking, an Impressed "Italy" inside a lozenge shaped cartouche, I would say that this is probably an unmarked Bitossi piece. It has the detail and quality that defines this Montelupo Fiorentini based company. A large number of Bitossi's ceramics were made under contract for various retailers. In such cases the name Bitossi was often omitted. This looks like a piece made for Rosenthal-Netter but that is only a guess. Below is an article I wrote about the company.

By the way, this is "stoneware or earthen ware". And I saw his name twice. I'm blaming him. He's the new guy.

I am sorry but I don't quite comprehend the intentions of your remarks. What are you blaming the artist for? And what may I ask is "UNUN"?

 

The mold stand. Different artists prefer creativity, but I believe that came from Tuscan imports.com and the artist is irrelevant. The Serial Number or Catalog # is older

 

Or any italian or foreign goods provider. It's just a start

Thank you Cheryl. I am almost certain that ScareBear must be aware of the fact that in his last comments he offered a link to the article I wrote about Bitossi. Therefore I must assume that he is in agreement with me.
Please allow me to correct one of ScareBear's assumptions. He came to the conclusion that the bowl was originally produced for Tuscan Imports, Inc. The design on the bowl can be found, however, on numerous examples of ceramics produced by Bitossi expressly for Rosenthal Netter. The Rosenthal-Netter company existed from 1959 until the late 1970's and was officially dissolved in 1995. Tuscan Imports was not established until 1998, almost forty years after Rosenthal-Netter.
ScareBear is also incorrect in stating that a piece of ceramic cannot be identified unless fully marked. It is, granted, difficult to discern from one ceramics artist from another but certainly not impossible. I have been a collector of Italian pottery for more than four decades. I have written the only books in the English language devoted to identifying Italian pottery from the late 19th century to the mid 20th century and created free forum dedicated to Italian ceramics. I can often identify the work of unsigned master ceramist in the same manner that an art historian can authenticate the work of a famous artist.

 

So...what's the magic marker designate? A catalog order number? Or literally his 278,234th piece. Besides, I drew the same conclusion you did, that's not hard to understand.
How can you confuse my comments? It insults me to say this, pretty much because I'm good for busting frauds. I'll not heed a warning for something that isn't there. It's impossible to misunderstand my posts. You're not Tobias Spitzer, the guy that claims that article. I'll bear that in mind. But if you, or anyone, are ever wrong, I'll know. But I'm not wasting my time on an italian bowl with brand new Expo marker on it when Tuscan imports custom designs these, as does 64 italian vendors, or Bitossi ceramiche... It's possible it's Bitossi or possibly his family. It was hard to believe a rectangle with italy was hardly owned by anyone but Bitossi in Italy. I can buy that at hobby lobby....

But I drew the conclusion Bitossi ceramiche (Bitossis family) designed the replica or sold the original. As those were similarly marked. But even Aldo Londi can do it.
