Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Oh, was the Red Cross already mentioned? Sorry, if it was. I normally don't reply to long threads like this because things get too confusing for me.

:) I get it. :) It is much worse when a reply is not directly placed with the reply button on the comment (like you and I just did) and not randomly at the bottom of the page. I'm often wondering what the fooey the comment is referring to. Then you have to go back and track it down. :p

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

True... but I sometimes don't bother tracking it down unless I'm very very interested!

Lots of possibilities on that round building, but we'll probably never know for sure. Thanks for the suggestions!

Mountain William <--> Hill Billy... took a while for me to cotton on.

Yes, the tree is interesting. I'll bet it was shaped that way intentionally as a trail marker way back.

Good genealogical tracking back there as well!

Not exactly an 'antique' as such, but it's from around 1950. This is an old family photograph of my grandmother's generation.

Granny is second-right, in the dark dress. If the photograph was taken in around 1950, then she would be in her...mid-late 30s here.

Scattered around her are her sisters-in-law (first, third and fifth in photograph), her sisters (second and seventh), her brother (middle-back), and her mother (my great-grandmother. Seated, front).

Not shown is a FOURTH sister, who for reasons unknown, is absent from the photo-shoot.

They're wearing a mix of Western (suit and bowtie), Chinese (Cheongsam), and traditional Straits Chinese (Sarong Kebaya) outfits.

It's a pity the photograph is in black-and-white, because Straits Chinese sarong kebaya outfits are really colourful.

    ...REALLY colourful!!!!

Wonderful photo! Could the fourth sister have been the photographer? Maybe not likely but, just thought I'd ask.

They were not a rich family (Damn Japanese occupation will do that to a family's fortunes), so something like a family snapshot, done professionally, would've been expensive for them. They didn't have the money to go out and buy cameras and do casual pictures back then. So this is professionally done.

Thanks to everybody who was so interested in my old family photograph!

Here's a blog-posting I wrote about it, if you're looking for a bit more information, and detail about it:
