What is this lucite tower with holes? Pipe holder?

What do you think this is? Pipe holder, something else? It has an Astrolite sticker.
I saw one other in my research. They called it a cigar holder, which I think is unlikely.

It is a sculpture, woman artist Shirley Ritts of Los Angeles...1960's Highly collectible.

Thanks, I did see similar in my research. They don't have holes and seem more like art/sculpture. Mine with the holes seems like it was designed with a use in mind, though I'd be delighted to have a sculpture instead of a pipe holder!

 

Is this glass or lucite? I like it.

 

I'm sorry, I just read the title...

 

With most transparent sculptures like lucite being lit up, any cuts, slices, divots, holes drilled or indeed any sufficiently curved or sharp edge will help catch the light with the hopes of creating a visually interesting piece. The holes purpose is to catch light and shadow to create contrast.
