This is a long shot, but does anyone recognize this from the piece that got punched?

Question - If that is all there is for "marks" why do you think this is from Sheffield?

Yep. It has an ivory finial, and all of the black paint is gone from the handle. It's on copper but as old as it is it's only worn through in one spot on the bottom. It just doesn't "feel" new enough to be silverplate either. Even the little rectangular "feet" (they're about 1mm high) aren't worn though and on a plated piece that's the first thing to go, generally.

That's what I figured, but with this crazy bunch you never know. A friend is getting it for Chanukkah whether she likes it or not, but I'd like to be able to tell her what she just got.(LOL) Most Jews who emigrated to the US didn't have the proverbial pot or the window to throw it out of in the Old Country. As a consequence most don't have much in the way of family antiques. I've been changing that a bit. :p
