It's not the size it's the lack of contrast and colour. The pictures need redoing. They could be so much better. You are selling what is essentiually a picture. It needs to look good, not barely legible.

Sorry to bang on about this, but it is vital to have top class pictures and top class descriptions to do well.

@afantiques Someone who wants this drawing will already have some idea of what it is. Anyone that doesn't will Google it and find a few pictures on an identical item. My pictures aren't bad enough for someone to not know what they are looking at.

You mention the colour, but the drawing itself is of a fairly dull colour. It isn't a bright picture, and my photos, if anything, highlight that. I'd be surprised if a slight lack of contrast would put someone off of an item as specific as this one. As I mentioned before, it is not something someone would buy because they think it looks nice. It's something a collector of maritime antiques would buy. It's probably a long shot on Ebay anyway, since it's the kind of item people want in front of them to take a look at rather than buying online.

If I see this item isn't selling on Ebay, I will probably make a few phone calls and find a buyer. I'm not necessarily worried about getting rid of it. It's a very nice picture, and by having a bit of patience I will eventually find someone to take it off of my hands :)

Well don't quit your day job thinking you will be a successful antiques dealer-doesn't make any difference to me but it seems you reject the advice of people who have done this for years and have learned how to sell online.

@springfld.arsenal I'm sorry, but I appear to have struck a nerve somewhere and I don't really see how......

I wasn't "rejecting" advice, I was merely trusting my own judgement. I am happy to listen to any suggestions people may have to help me. I am happy to take on board any useful information people are willing to offer. However, I am not here to be "taught" or "told" how to do something. I've been involved in business and sales in some capacity for several years now. I wasn't born yesterday.

If you want to say that you think your way of doing things is more effective, that is fine, and you are entitled to your opinion and a platform to prove your case. But please, don't get snappy if I decide to do something a different way.

Hmmm why did my Ebay link get removed? Very odd. Did I trigger some automatic system somehow?

Didn't sell, so now this will be sent to Bonhams. Let's see if they'll be able to fetch me a healthy sum.

Good idea! No doubt, if they should decide to accept the item, they will get decent photos.
