Bookends Help with Manufacturers Mark

Last Saturday, I bought a box of 5 pairs of bookends at the estate auction of an antique dealer. I've been having fun trying to identify them.

I'm stuck on this one. The bookends are each of a man wearing only a sort of a Japanese loincloth (reminiscent of what Samuri wear) pushing with his back against the books.

They are metal, quite heavy, have a green finish, and are standing on what I believe to be an onyx base. Might classify as Art Deco.

The mark on the back shows a "G" in a circle with some sort of design over it (arcs ?, wings ?, crown ?).

I'm hoping someone might have run into this mark in the past and know the manufacturer / foundry name.

    Thanks !

I suspect Greco-Roman wrestler types, rather than thinking Japanese style. (And those Japanese "wrestlers" are Sumo wrestlers, not samurai.)

Encyclopedia of Bookends by Kuritzky and De Costa.
    page 231
They are calling it the "Olympian Pose" ca 1925
Grey metal on marble 6 3/4". Marked "C" (although, I think it looks more like a "G" as you said)
They give it a rare rating. Book price in 2006 was $325.00 (That's before prices fell).

Wow, I just noticed the bowl behind the bookends. That's a beauty.

Thanks you, right on both counts ! (Very embarrassed over the samurai / sumo goof...)

Excellent, thank you so much. It sounds like they didn't actually list a maker, but the "C" gives me a new angle for research. Much appreciated !

    @RogerE
Is it signed? Is it legible?
Any chance of taking a picture of the signature for those of us who like to look at those things.

Sure CC, here's a couple of pics. It's not old I'm afraid, it's recent work from 2011. IMG_0040.JPG

    Thank you.
Sometimes it doesn't matter whether it is old or not when it is as nice as that.

I see the studio is over on the coast below Santa Cruz.
We have a lot or retired Santa Cruz people here in our area.
I don't want to be stupid and pass a piece up somewhere.

I had Mr DeCosta's web page bookmarked, but when I checked there it was no long functioning.
So I Googled him. thinking he may have just move it, and found out he died last Dec, 2015. :(:(
