Hi Y'All

    Four years ago my husband and I bought a 100+ year old farmhouse and are slowly working at furnishing it. Don't know much about antiques, but we are trying to stick with items we "think" are mid/late 1800's - early 1900's.

    I wouldn't say we really collect anything, but we have 50 some odd oil lamps around the house and a growing amount of railroadiana. And not anything at all antique about it, but we also are into garden trains and have a good size layout in our front yard (hence my avatar).

    Welcome to the forums! There are a lot of railroad related collectables and collectors out there! My grandfather had quite a few railroad lamps, shovels, and such before he auctioned off his collection. Hope you enjoy it here.

    Welcome to Antiquers.............:cat:

    My father was an engineer for the New York, New Haven RR. It then became the Pennsylvania (something or other) RR.

    I hung his NYNHRR red glass lantern on my former back porch (not visible to the street) and someone took it. Delivery person? I'll never know.

    Whoever took it thought it was valuable. To me it's only value was that it belonged to my father.

    Perhaps, but if you actually say you collect something people expect you to be able to converse intelligently. On those I have to run to my husband. Now B&O Railroad Centenary pattern dining car china is a different topic :D

    If that's true, I have some studying to do on various topics :D The rule of thumb I've heard around here about "collections" is that if you have more than 2 - it's a collection :)

    You'll have to show us some of your dining car china in it's own thread!
