Merrythought teddy value?

    Hi,

I have a teddy I've inherited and it's rather large. About 32 inches and he stands with movable arms. I think from the 80"s. A kind valuer has told me roughly what he thinks the value is - £20 - 40. I know my mother kept it safe thinking it was worth more. But she's passed away so I can't ask her.

Other than value does anyone have any useful info on this bear. I'm thinking about keeping him if he's not worth selling.

    Thank you. Photo attached.

    Clean, neat and cute.

Please, just re-post the picture and click on the enlargement size. Thanks.

    Any tags or ID's anywhere?

    Blue and pink ribbons. LGBT?

I'll try to upload more but it is a merrythought via Harrods. I think 80's.

    Sorry, I didn't know merrythought was a Harrod's line.

I suggest, if you haven't already, run it through Amazon AND eBay SOLD. You can pick out the closest to yours faster than I can. They are selling from $10 to $200 +. And if you decide not to sell you might even get him/her a mate.

    Best of luck either way.

Thank you. Yes I had already run through eBay sold lists but despite trawling through the internet using different searches I've come up with nothing!

This is strictly a possibility because I have not done a search on your specific bear. Just about every company who made teddy bears put out a special bear in 2002 for the 100 year anniversary of the teddy bear. This may be one of those bears.

Thank you. I wonder if it is one of those.

The only bear I can find resembling my bear is one which is a small replica of one given by Prince Edward to Prince Andrew and Fergie on their marriage. But for all I know my bear could be more recent.

It is a Merrythought England bear commissioned by Harrods. Merrythought told me they couldn't give any info on it because it was a Harrods bear. So I will contact Harrods to see if they know anything.

    Thanks again.

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

I collected Steiff (and some other) teddies in my 20s...
    I agree with the above.
Merrythoughts were/are my favorite other European bear.
No idea about the ribbon... maybe as a gift for an expected baby back before there were ways to know the gender?

    EDIT
Is it original? Most bows were/are simple bow-knots of same-color ribbon...

Sorry I thought the Teddy photo was the right size! . I'm sending via my smart phone so I can't tell what it would look like on a bigger screen!

I am sure those ribbons are original. I have found a smaller but similar merrythought one with those ribbons on the internet. Like you say maybe a baby boy girl thing.

Also the Teddy I found said it was a replica (had blue plink ribbons in same way) of the wedding bear given to Prince Andrew and Fergie by Prince Edward. The replica I saw was much smaller but my teddy is 32 inches high.

I wonder if it is one made as a replica for that celebration in the 80's.

I love his face and the whole styling. So I won't part with him unless he does have a decent value as I rather like his aura!
