Please help I..D / value

Hello my name is Matt I received this old book and want to pass it down to my son so I was looking for some help me I/D this book and maybe a value so I can pass it to my son the book is in nice condition for its age and is signed by someone I'm not sure about thanks for any help...Matt/son

 

This book has been digitized and is also available as print on demand. I did find a print copy of the original edition for sale online, and you can see what they are asking for it.

The person who inscribed the book, Edwin Drury, must have been in that regiment. However, I did not find him listed in the database of Civil War soldiers that the National Park Service has online: https://www.nps.gov/civilwar/search-soldiers.htm

He is buried in the Rosehill Cemetery in Chicago.

The regiment has some records stored at the Wauconda museum and there was a Drury with the same first name listed in Wilmette, Illinois as the post master. He died a bit after the turn of the century and is in the right age range to have served with this group. The group didn't do too well though in terms of deaths either via the war or illness from what I could find.

Can anyone make out the name of the person drury in writing to ..

 

The inscription is to Samuel S Dingee, probably the Samuel Speer Dingee appointed postmaster in Wilmette in 1897 and reappointed in 1906.

He was born in 1861 so obviously not a participant in the CW, but certainly a well-known figure in town.
