I have decided to use the Terrarium as a stand for my sewing boxes, I have some lovely matching victorian fabric and tassels (bought separately but they match) that I'm going to use.

The best thing about it is that if later I decide to put it to its original use I can just take out the fabric and get glass or plastic cut for it.

 

I suggest you put photos in your phone and detailed measurements in your phone notes.
Then, if you come across something that could work, you could refer to them. If you get in a discussion about it you can make it more clear to the other person who may be able to assist you better.

I've got a before photo in my Macbook and I'll follow your advice and put everything in my Notes app.

 

I think I was lucky with that, It had only been in the antiques centre a couple of days and I'm amazed it was still there it was so cheap.

It is so hot here I can't stand it, but I had summer cabin fever so I ventured out.

Marko - Your 2 bracelets with the rhinestones may be Weiss, but check on it to be sure. I would have dove on top of those 3 bracelets for $3.00 each in a skinny minute!!

I made a start on the Terrarium by giving it a couple of coats of Hammerite, Don't know if you use this in other countries but it can go straight onto rust.
First problem is it looked off white on the label but it's actually really white so I'm going to give it a wash of cream emulsion paint and maybe dull it down with patina paste if need be.

I'd check the middle one for bakelite, just in case. The stones are later, but they were using old stocks of it well into the 60s. I'd have dropped $3 each on those too, and then walked away chortling. This is my best find of the weekend. I think it's plated on a good day, but it's a souvenir of a ship that went down during WWI ... the TSS Transylvania.(LOL) Bram Stoker's favorite cruise liner!

Here are some of the goodies that I brought home
A couple of balsa wood rubber powered airplanes that look to be complete but the boxes are in rough shape, nice hammered copper dish, 3 sieves by The Tyler co, small cross, maybe a memorial piece from the 1st WW and these crazy little faces - I haven't looked them up yet but I think they must from carnivals or fairs.
