How old is this glove?

I'd say not very. Just well used. My son was a wildland firefighter for nine years and spends a lot of time outdoors. He has gloves like this.

 

What the heck? Did the dude who owned that glove wear it to wrestle alligators?

 

Think about it -- if you are using your work gloves only to handle smooth-sawn lumber well . . . . .

BUT if you are using your gloves to work with rough bricks or cinder blocks or to move large rough (sharp-edged) rocks from a landscape or to load up a truck to haul away rough-bark tree logs after a tree has been felled . . . well . . . .

 

It's deer hide...& old enough to be thrown away !

I've got a bunch of old gloves that look very similar from doing archaeology with the exception of the thumb which looks like an animal chewed on it. It takes a very short period of time to wear out a pair when you're doing rough work.

 

I agree with Terry. I've seen many pair of gloves that look like this and worse. It's expected when a man uses his hands and back to make a living.
