I bought what feels to be a higher quality vintage ashtray the other day. Please let me know what you guys think or know.

The way the name is scribed into the piece makes me think it is a craft project. Also the all over glaze is an often seen attributed of craft pieces.

Over the years, places would sell molded pieces such as this for customers to finish, often in "classes". The shop would fire the pieces for the customers, and the customer would scribe their name into the piece so it could be distinguished from all the other pieces the shop fired for customers.

Ok thanks. I thought it might be from something of that sorts, either way I like the colours and look. It’s definitely feels better than some others I’ve came across.

I like it too. but with a name like Meyer you're probably lost when searching.

The shape is very like much Vallauris stuff.

Yes, there was and still is a fad for hobbyists to choose a piece of greenware, paint and glaze it and then it would be fired for them. My mom did several pieces back in the 70s. Now there are craft studios that do it. One here in town is called “Fired Up.”
