Does this look like a stone or glass? Looks like glass to me, but WDIK. It's sterling.

This looks like garnet but the only sure way to tell is with a gem tester. I'm betting it is though. Pretty !

Wow, I thought I had done a good job cleaning that ring until I uploaded the pictures here.
Thanks Calico. I never would have guessed garnet because of the pinkish undertone I'm seeing.

Wow, I thought I had cleaned the ring up with the sunshine cloth, but realized I didn't do a very good job after seeing the pics uploaded here. Still some tarnish or dirt in the nooks and crannies, but this looks quite a bit better now:

    Possibly almandine garnet or carbuncle.

Is the setting silver? Looks like it is.
Is the back of the stone open for light?

    I agree with garnet.

Garnet for sure. Rhodolite or pyrope, from the look of it. Almandine has some orange in it.

I vote garnet, they even come in pinks. Pyrope is the color of pomagranite. Nice ring. :)

They come green too, for that matter. Demantoids are worth $$$; the purple ones, not so much.

Am I seeing a cat's-eye effect on the second image? If it has a cat's eye, that could change things...

Then I don't think it is very old.
Something from a new age shop? Maybe from India? Thailand?

It is still a nice setting.
