Hello there! My mother-in-law was given this piece in the 1960's by a well-to-do person from Houston, TX. I cannot find any markings anywhere, but I thought someone might recognize the style from a certain artist? It is 17 inches tall and 14 inches wide, and weighs about 15-20 pounds. Any ideas? Thank you for your feedback in advance! IMG_1616.JPG IMG_1617.JPG IMG_1619.JPG IMG_1618.JPG

When I hear 'mocha pottery" I think of this type of ware.[IMG]

We were told the feathering was made with a mixture of urine and tobacco to run into the slip. That was what we were told 50 years ago. Whether that is true or not mmmmm?

Yup, @popsycat , your image is mocha ware. OPs looks like stoneware of some sort, possibly salt glazed.

I was expecting to see something similar to what popsycat posted.

I would not refer to this as Mocha pottery. Rather Mocha colored.

Appears to be some sort of storage container -IF it is an actual old pottery piece.
Otherwise it could be a vase from a studio potter if from the 1960s. Although you would expect it to be signed if it were. Just thinking out "loud" so to speak.

Is this a plug? Could it have been a lamp base?
