    Hi all

i have a strange object that i recently placed online for sale and i was contacted by a few buyers from the UAE and middle east offering the 10 fold of my asking price. I first thought they were scamming me because their offers were, to say the least, ridiculously high.

i researched the object online more careful and they do seem to be valuable or very valuable objects (ebay ranging from 12.000€ - 2000€ others 40-500€) but i have no idea anymore how much my object could be worth, i was offered up to 400€ by one buyer but he gave me the feeling it was still a bargain to him so i thought he was scamming me

can anyone tell me whether my object is real antique or why they are so interested in it? If possible an estimation would be welcome too because i m puzzled now really, otherwise i keep it in my private collection....

its brass, 30cm high, approx 525ml content

    thanks for the help

Maybe fellow Belgian @santiques knows more about it. He is originally from the Middle East.

Nice? Well each to his or her own of course. I’m no expert on these things but this looks very, shall I say, pedestrian to me, like something that’d be bought and used by very ordinary folks. $25. On a good day. What could you lose by accepting an offer? As long as you don’t fall for the scam “I’m sending a check for way more and you send me back the difference” and you wait a month for the check to clear, all you’d be out is a bad check fee when the rubber check bounces.

I'm with spring, accept the good offer, and make sure the buyer pays through paypal or something.
Pedestrian or not, it is difficult for Saudis and Emiratis to get their old stuff. There is not much left where they are, and this is a genuine oldie.
No, it isn't. The other one was a souvenir, with 'S. Arabia' etc. engraved on it. Yours is the real deal.
    This is the souvenir dallah:

I just shake my hear when I hear this...
sellers get offered more than they are asking and the 1st though is that they are being scammed because now they think their item MUST be worth 50 times...100 times...a thousand times what their original asking price....

Thanks for the answers so far. Its just that in the Benelux when someone mentions western union or paypal we associate it with a scam, i never sold stuff internationally

doing this as a hobby but need to get rid of stuff, this was a little gem then

Why would anyone offer more than your asking price? Wouldn't they just pay your price and be happy about getting a great deal?

I am also in the Benelux, and you're right, we don't trust Western Union payments. But believe me, I and many others here have no problem with paypal. And you only send the item when you have received the money, simple as that.

maybe it was an auction they wanted to stop....
maybe they have so much money that they think throwing it around is status or power...

" i was contacted by a few buyers from the UAE and middle east offering the 10 fold of my asking price"

That's not one guy......it sounds like several wanted to get their slimy paws on this before it went to someone else....;););)

I used 2 websites, took it offline because i received replies from usa and uae but didnt trust it and placed it on ebay to check if i ld get the same reaction, there someone placed a bid immediatly, then another one contacted me saying” how much to buy now and have it in uae, 200?, what size is it? i said 30cm, 300€ then he said, i said its too expensive to ship to the middle east, and he says 400

    Prob a wealthy guy indeed

Misterke is right, here in the Benelux (Belgium, Netherlands, Luxemburg, the first European Union) authorities warn against WU payments, because here it is mostly used by Nigerian scammers etc. Benelux citizens themselves don't use WU. We have a range of EU or Benelux supervised payment platforms, next to the usual credit card companies and Paypal.

Yes my first idea of scamming was that they offered way too much and i was in shock not knowing it was such a rare item and thats where my love for old stuff kicks in, then i want to know why or where it comes from,

i m not doing this for cash actually, dont need the money now but on the other hand i dont want to give away a super rare item or something then i ld rather keep it, even if someone offers 500€.

But i guess this just happens to be an antique piece, nothing extraordinary since it is not marked

    no hard feelings, my mistake
